Hair and hormones: what's the link?
Hair loss and brittleness: hormones also play a role in hair health.
It's well known that hormones, from adolescence onwards and throughout our adult lives, have a direct impact on the quality of our skin. But what about our hair?
Like our skin, the health of our hair is also linked to hormonal fluctuations. Perhaps the best example of this is hair loss.
- The vast majority of hair loss in men is directly linked to hormones.
- In women, hormonal imbalance accounts for 15-20% of hair loss.
In fact, androgenic hormones, such as testosterone, speed up the hair life cycle (leading to premature hair loss), while estrogens, such as progesterone, contribute to hair growth. When a hormonal imbalance occurs (excess testosterone in men, or hormonal periods such as menstruation, pregnancy and menopause in women), it can lead to hair loss. This is known as androgenic alopecia.
But don't panic, there are ways to limit hair loss. To begin with, you need to avoid as much as possible external factors that could accelerate hair loss.
❌ For example, too much heat when drying, straightening, too-tight hairstyles, certain colorings or even hair products that are too aggressive, tend to weaken the hair and therefore facilitate hair loss.
❌More generally, stress, fatigue, smoking and poor diet are all factors that promote hair loss.
To strengthen the hair fiber and avoid damaging the scalp, we prefer natural, fortifying treatments.
It was with this aim of offering products that are both good for your hair and good for your scalp that Julia and I launched Sea Ya Beach. Sea Ya Beach a detoxifying and repairing mask that can be applied at the roots to strengthen the hair fiber and stimulate growth.
And since we're bursting with ideas, we've got a new idea, also dedicated to hair, currently up for vote. If you feel concerned by all these issues, don't forget to vote for Mathilda's project: Peace in the haira shampoo specially designed to soothe the scalp and limit the appearance of dandruff.
All you need to take care of your hair every day, without damaging it!
